December 31, 2008:
1 Black Redstart in nursing home gardens - Red Rocks, 1 Snow bunting on the rocks, at least 60 Brent Geese on Bird Rock, 1 Short-eared Owl on the marsh.
1 Mediterranean Gull (ad winter) on the shore, 2 Stonechat on the marsh - West Kirby Shore.
13 Twite and c1,500 Black-tailed Godwit-  Thurstaston Shore.

December 30, 2008:
13 Twite this morning -  Thurstaston Shore, on cliff by steps at end of Station Road, good views this afternoon on beach by steps.
1 Black Redstart in nursing home gardens - Red Rocks.
8 Snow Bunting - Point of Ayr, on beach by lighthouse.
At least 5 Hen Harriers this evening at the Parkgate Marsh roost site, 5 were in the air together when light was fading, and earlier 3 ringtail and 2 male were identified, also 2+ Short-eared Owl, 1 Merlin, 1 Barn Owl and 1 Raven.

December 29, 2008:
1 Black Redstart in nursing home gardens - Red Rocks.
13 Twite this morning, 1,230 Black-tailed Godwit (6 colour-ringed) as tide went out this afternoon -  Thurstaston Shore.

December 28, 2008:
1 Black Redstart in nursing home gardens, also 1 Snow bunting and 1 Short-eared Owl over the golf course - Red Rocks.
1 Green-winged Teal (drake) - Inner Marsh Farm.
1 Marsh Harrier and 6 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh.
1 'probable' Richard's Pipit, 3 Merlin and at least 4 Hen Harrier (incl 2 male) - Parkgate Marsh.
1 Mediterranean Gull (ad) - Meols Shore this afternoon.

December 27, 2008:
970 Pintail (record number for Thurstaston!!), 13 Twite, 1 Greenshank, 1,110 Black-tailed Godwit and 1 Peregrine at Thurstaston and Heswall Shore on a glorious frosty and sunny morning, Twite still by Tinker's Dell.
96 Great Crested Grebe off Dove Point, Meols, at high tide.
1 Black Redstart in nursing home gardens, 1 Snow Bunting on the beach - Red Rocks.

December 26, 2008:
1 Waxwing showing well at Thurstaston Visitor Centre.
6 Hen Harrier (4 fem, 2 male) coming to the roost site, this was a good count as they landed - also possibly a third male bird, 6 Short-eared Owl and 1 Merlin -  Parkgate Marsh, also good views of the Richard's Pipit north of the Old Baths car park.
1 Green-winged Teal (drake), 1 Spotted Redshank and 1 Water Rail - Inner Marsh Farm.
101 Brent Geese (light-bellied), 16 Purple Sandpiper, 1 Shag and 1 Red-throated Diver - Hilbre Island.
13 Twite - Thurstaston Shore.

December 25, 2008:
2 Hen Harrier (one Fem, 1 male) at Old Baths car park, Parkgate.
9 Red-breasted Merganser, 5 Goldeneye and 1 Great Crested Grebe -  West Kirby Marine Lake.

December 24, 2008:
31 Brent Geese (incl 2 dark-bellied), 21 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Red-throated Diver, 1 probable but distant Great Northern Diver, 1 Peregrine and 11 Purple Sandpiper - Hilbre Island.
1 Richard's Pipit just north of Old Baths car park, Parkgate.
c12 Twite - Thurstaston Shore.
90+ Pink-footed Geese off Flint Marsh.

December 23, 2008:
4 Short-eared Owls on Burton Marsh this afternoon were just 20 yards from the road at Decca Pools, also 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail).
11 Reed Bunting by the Harp Inn, Neston Marsh.
680 Black-tailed Godwit - Thurstaston Shore.

December 22, 2008:
133 Brent Geese (incl 2 dark-bellied), 1 Shag and c20 Purple Sandpiper - Hilbre Island.
6 Short-eared Owl - Parkgate Marsh.

December 21, 2008:
13 Twite - Thurstaston Shore, on beach by Tinker's Dell steps.
1 Richards Pipit- Parkgate, by path north of Old Baths car park, golf course/saltmarsh - flew over golf course late morning.
1 Green-winged Teal, 1 Goosander (drake) and 2 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Inner Marsh Farm.
1 Short-eared Owl and 1 Hen Harrier (1st winter male) - Shotwick Pools.

115+ Brent Geese - Little Eye at high tide, 66 of these flew into West Kirby Shore.
157 Golden Plover, 619 Lapwing, 620 Pintail, c6,000 Oystercatcher, 1 Jack Snipe and 4 Grey Wagtail - Thurstaston/Heswall Shore.
1 Snow Bunting - Red Rocks.

December 16, 2008:
1 Richards Pipit- Parkgate, by path north of Old Baths car park, but flew into marsh at 2.15pm.
3 Snow Bunting - Red Rocks.
4 Stonechat in sand dunes by Pinfold steps, West Kirby Shore.
1 Great Northern Diver, 11 Red-breasted Merganser and 14 Goldeneye - West Kirby Marine Lake.

December 15, 2008:
435 Great Crested Grebe on sea off Dove Point, Meols, at high tide, second ever highest count for North Wirral/Dee Estuary.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 1 Short-eared Owl and 1 Merlin - Heswall Marsh before high tide.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 1 Water Rail, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Goosander (drake) and 20+ Golden Plover - Inner Marsh Farm.
4 Short-eared Owl, 2 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 5 Snipe and 1 Barn Owl - Burton Marsh.

December 14, 2008:
1 Waxwing in birder's back garden 73 Grange Road, view from Heatherdene Road - West Kirby.
1 Long-tailed Duck on West Kirby Marine Lake this afternoon, but no sign at 3.30pm.
50-70 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Hen Harrier (1 male and 3 ringtail), 1 poss but distant Marsh Harrier, 2 Short-eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Merlin and 1 Peregrine - Parkgate Marsh.
At Least 3 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh.
600+ Pintail, 1 Hen Harrier (ad male), 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Peregrine, 1 Merlin and 1 Stonechat - Heswall Marsh.
3 Snow Bunting - Red Rocks.
54 Black-tailed Godwit, 200 Curlew, 118 Redshank, 3 Ruff and 8 Water Rail - Hoylake Langfields.

40 Whooper Swan and 18 Bewick's Swan - Outer Burton Marsh.
1 Great Northern Diver, seen to circle around the lake twice and fly out over the estuary this afternoon, also 5 Red-breasted Merganser - West Kirby Marine Lake.
3 Short-eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl and at least 200 Pink-footed Geese - Parkgate Marsh.

51 Moorhen, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Stonechat, 4 Grey Partridge and 2 Grey Wagtail - Hoylake Langfields.
4 Water Rail - Red Rocks marsh.
1 Great Northern Diver, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 9 Goldeneye and 17 Red-breasted Merganser - West Kirby Marine Lake.
300+ Pink-footed Geese over Gilroy Nature Park, West Kirby, this morning.
10+ Short-eared Owl and 300 Pink-footed Geese - Burton Marsh.
2 Barn Owl, 1 Short-eared Owl and 6 Hen Harrier (1 ad male, 1 sub-ad male, 4 ringtail)  at Parkgate old baths this evening, the highest number of Hen Harriers for over 12 years.

December 5, 2008:
154 Redwing, 26 Fieldfare, 110 Goldfinch and 10 Bullfinch - Wirral Way, Thurstaston/Heswall.
1 Waxwing at 0820hrs eating berries at Neston Surgery, not seen again.

December 4, 2008:
1 Green-winged Teal, 3 Ruff, 3 Spotted Redshank and 6 Lesser Redpoll -  Inner Marsh Farm.

December 3, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver on West Kirby Marine Lake behaving aggressively towards several Red-breasted Mergansers, total 9, also 11 Goldeneye, 1 Shag and 2 Great Crested Grebe.
1 Merlin, 1 Peregrine, 2 Hen Harrier (ringtail and male), 859 Pintail, 560 Black-tailed Godwit, 152 Golden Plover, 6,000 Knot and 10,000 Oystercatcher  -  Thurstaston/Heswall Shore.
2 Hen Harrier (1 ad male and 1 ringtail) and 8 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh.
10 Purple Sandpiper - New Brighton.

December 2, 2008:

1 Great Northern Diver on West Kirby Marine Lake, 70 Pink-footed Geese flew over West Kirby heading north at about 3.30pm.
7,000 Dunlin, 5,000 Knot and 1 Peregrine - West Kirby Shore at high tide.
520 Pintail, 464 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Peregrine, 121 Golden Plover and 210 Lapwing - Heswall/Thurstaston Shore.
c50 Redwing and at least 21 Blackbird along Wirral Way - Caldy to Heswall.
10 Purple Sandpiper - Wallasey Shore at high tide.

November 30, 2008:
3 Firecrest reported in a Bungalow garden near BP garage, Greasby - no other details.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) over Hoylake Langfields this morning, also 150+ Fieldfare and 50+ Redwing feeding on Hawthorn berries.
61 Snipe in field opposite Gilroy Nature Park, West Kirby, 39 Pink-footed Geese over.
1 Great Northern Diver on West Kirby Marine Lake.
91 Brent Geese (pale-bellied) on sea off Little Eye.
11 Little Egret on West Kirby Marsh, highest ever for this site!
490 Black-tailed Godwit and 250+ Pintail with more flighting in as tide went out this afternoon -  Thurstaston Shore.
1 adult male and 1 female Hen Harrier, 3+ Short-eared Owl and 1 Barn Owl - Old Baths, Parkgate Marsh late afternoon..

November 28, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver on West Kirby Marine Lake.
400 Shelduck, 400 Sanderling, 310 Grey Plover, 62 Bar-tailed Godwit, 3,900 Dunlin and 2,500 Knot - Hoylake Shore at high tide, yesterday there was a Bar-tailed Godwit still in full summer plumage.
c100 Common Scoter in several small flocks - Meols Shore.
4 Scaup off Caldy steps this morning.
18 Short-eared Owl, 2 Hen Harrier (sub? -adult male and ringtail) and 1 Merlin - Burton Marsh.
1 Greenshank, 125 Golden Plover and c350 Black-tailed Godwit - Heswall Shore.
1 Snow Bunting - Little Eye.
5 Hen Harrier (adult 'grey' male, sub-adult male and 3 ringtail), 8+ Short-eared Owl, 4 Peregrine, 1 Barn Owl and 700 Pink-footed Geese - Old Baths, Parkgate Marsh late afternoon.
120+ Brent Geese between the Hilbre islands this afternoon, also c100 Sanderling.

November 26, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver, 7 Red-breasted Merganser and 11 Goldeneye on West Kirby Marine Lake, 63 Redshank, 59 Turnstone and 1 Purple Sandpiper on the wall.
2 Scaup on the sea off West Kirby Shore, also 2 Snow Bunting and 3 Grey Wagtail on shore.

Just received report of two waxwings feeding in a Caldy garden near the Wirral Way on Nov 15th followed by three on Nov 22nd, feeding on Rowan berries.

1 Great Northern Diver and 7 Red-breasted Merganser on West Kirby Marine Lake this morning.
472 Black-tailed Godwit, 353 Pintail, c10,000 Knot and c6,000 just off beach at Thurstaston Shore at low tide, a lot more birds further out.
2 Hen Harrier (male), 2 Short-eared Owl, 1 Merlin and 1 Peregrine - Parkgate Marsh, this afternoon.

25 Short-eared Owl on Burton Marsh this afternoon, this must be the highest ever!!!

1 Firecrest along the Wirral Way south of Thurstaston Visitor Centre, near footpath exit to the Dungeon Woods.
1 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in trees by Echo Lane, behind Ring O'Bells Pub, West Kirby.
c500 Redwing flew SW in several small flocks over Gilroy Nature Park, West Kirby this morning.
Total of c250 Redwing and Fieldfare flew W over the estuary over Parkgate Marsh this morning.
2 Merlin, 1 Peregrine and 1 Greenshank - Heswall Marsh.
1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Hen Harrier and 3 Short-eared Owl - Parkgate Marsh, this afternoon.

November 15, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver - West Kirby Marine Lake.
1 Firecrest in tit flock along the Wirral Way south of Thurstaston Visitor Centre, between the Dungeon Bridge and the footpath exit to the Dungeon Woods.
29 Snipe, 25 Curlew and 6 Black-tailed Godwit in flooded field opposite Gilroy Nature Park, West Kirby.
20+ Snipe including one flock of 17 birds - Heswall Shore.
3 Snow Bunting, c250 Shelduck and mixed flock of c6,000 waders which included a Bar-tailed Godwit in full summer plumage - Hoylake Shore.
4 Hen Harrier (1 sub-adult male and 3 ringtail), 4 Short-eared Owl and 2 Barn Owl - Parkgate Marsh.
8 Short-eared Owl and 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Burton Marsh.

November 14, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver - West Kirby Marine Lake, also 1 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Red-breasted Merganser and 2 Scaup (fem).
3 Snow Bunting - Hoylake Shore after high tide, probably same birds seen later on West Kirby Shoe by Pinfold steps.
4 Scaup off Caldy steps as tide came in.

November 13, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver at north end at 8.30am, also 10 Red-breasted Merganser and 1 Great Crested Grebe - West Kirby Marine Lake, 4 Scaup on the sea.
1 Peregrine and Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Parkgate Marsh.
 8 Short-eared Owl, 1 Peregrine, 1 Merlin and 2 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Burton Marsh.

November 12, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver again - at north end at 11am, 4 Scaup on sea at high tide - West Kirby Marine Lake.
60+ Brent off Little Eye at high tide.
5 Snow Bunting which flew off towards Red Rocks and 30 Waxwing over flying towards Mostyn Dock, also 18 Brent Geese (pale-bellied), 430 Grey Plover, 3,100 Oystercatcher, 3,000 Dunlin and 800 Knot - West Kirby Shore over high tide.

November 11, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver and 1 Scaup (drake) until 9.30am when disturbed by windsurfers - West Kirby Marine Lake.
38 Twite feeding around the West Hide, 2 Spotted Redshank and a Kingfisher Connah's Quay Reserve.
1 ringtail Hen Harrier buzzed by a Peregrine over Burton Marsh.

November 10, 2008:
1 Great Northern Diver - present all day at southern end, also 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Goldeneye and 3 Red-breasted Merganser - West Kirby Marine Lake, 4 Scaup on the sea just to the south at high tide.
238 Black-tailed Godwit on the shore, 2 Peregrine - male dropped prey in field by Wirral way which female then collected - superb views, also c20 Redwing - Heswall.
12 Spotted Redshank - Connah's Quay Reserve.

November 9, 2008:
1 Snow Bunting - Little Eye.
1 Great Northern Diver - Hilbre, 1 Snow bunting on Middle Eye.
1 Short-eared Owl disturbed from rough grass by Leasowe Lighthouse, early morning.
c200 Wigeon, 1 Peregrine, 1 Merlin and 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Burton Marsh.
1 Merlin and 2 Hen Harrier (1 ad male, 1 ringtail) - Parkgate Marsh.

November 7, 2008:
1 Rough-legged Buzzard over sand dunes this morning, between Red Rocks and West Kirby - last report at 9.10am when it was seen flying high, 2 Waxwings flew south at around 10am, Long-eared Owl reported at dusk yesterday is now thought to have been a Short-eared Owl.
3 Snow Bunting on West Kirby Shore  by the Pinfold steps, 1045am.
1 Snow Bunting - Middle Eye.
1 Red-throated Diver - West Kirby Marine Lake.
1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 1 Peregrine, 2 Merlin and 3 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh this afternoon.

November 6, 2008:

1 Rough-legged Buzzard flew south from Middle Eye at 1015hrs.
1 Rough-legged Buzzard disturbed from Cubbin's Green, West Kirby at 1300hrs.
1 Rough-legged Buzzard over sand dunes just SW of Red Rocks from 3.30pm to at least 4.30pm, probably roosting nearby or maybe gone back to Middle Eye.
84 Bar-tailed Godwit, 440 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Snipe and 450 Pintail - Thurstaston Shore as tide came in this afternoon.
6 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh.

290 Pintail, 10,000 Knot, 15,000 Oystercatcher and 350 Black-tailed Godwit - Heswall/Thurstaston Shore at high tide.
8 Short-eared Owl and 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Burton Marsh at 3pm.
6 Red-breasted Merganser - West Kirby Marine Lake, 1 Short-eared Owl and 3 Raven over.

November 3, 2008:
4 Pink-footed Geese still in potato field going towards Meols from Leasowe Lighthouse.
1 Whooper Swan, 5 Goldeneye and 7 Red-breasted Merganser, 57 Pink-footed Geese flying S - West Kirby Marine Lake.
1 Short-eared Owl over Hoylake golf course (Royal Liverpool).
210 Pintail, 10,000 Knot, 15,000 Oystercatcher and 250 Black-tailed Godwit - Thurstaston Shore as tide came in this morning.
100 Pink-footed Geese and 4 Whooper Swan over Inner Marsh Farm.
1 Greenland Wheatear (male), 1 Peregrine, 2 Spotted Redshank and 4 Greenshank - Connah's Quay Reserve.
1 late Swallow, 5+ Short-eared Owl, 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) and 1 Whooper Swan - Burton Marsh.
c100 Pink-footed Geese over Shotton this evening, headed towards the estuary.

November 2, 2008:
4 Pink-footed Geese in potato field going towards Meols from Leasowe Lighthouse.
4 Purple Sandpiper on rocks by Wallasey Lifeguard Station.
2 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 3 Merlin, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Short-eared Owl, 6 kestrel, 28 Little Egret and 22 Pink Footed Geese off Parkgate Old Baths this evening.

November 1, 2008:
1 Brambling - Burton Marsh.
7 Short-eared Owl, 1 Hen Harrier (fem), 2 Merlin, 1 Peregrine, 4 Raven and 2 Buzzard between Denhall Quay and Parkgate.
1 Snow Bunting over, 64 Brent Geese and 2 Peregrine - Hilbre.
200 Blackbird, 150 Redwing, 400 fieldfare, 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Sparrowhawk and 1 Kingfisher - Leasowe Lighthouse/Lingham Lane area.
