c80 Little Tern and c1000 Sandwich Tern at Gronant today, offshore there were many thousands of Common Scoters looking towards Burbo Bank windfarm.
4 Spoonbill on main scrape - Burton Mere Wetlands.
6,010 Black-tailed Godwit at - Caldy Wildfowl Collection (off A540), West Kirby, a site record and probably a record high for a single site on the Dee Estuary, this is 9.9% of the total Icelandic sub-species!
8 Greenshank, 7 Little Grebe, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Peregrine circling over power station - Connah's Quay Nature Reserve.
800 Sandwich Tern this evening - Hilbre.

Aug 29
1 Swift over Higher Shotton early morning.
1 Bonaparte's Gull and 1 Mediterranean Gull, good numbers of Sandwich Terns, also 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Eider, 7 Teal flew by and 4 juv Kittiwakes - Hilbre.
1 Redstart by hedge over railway bridge this morning - Burton Mere Wetlands.

Aug 28
1 Bonaparte's Gull again showing in gutter early morning - Hilbre.
1 Mediterranean Gull (ad), 380 Sandwich Tern and c2,000 small waders mostly Dunlin - Hoylake Shore.
1 Hobby, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Cattle Egret, 6 Ruff and 30 Snipe Burton Mere Wetlands.

Aug 27

Aug 26
2 Greenshank around groyne this morning - Meols Common.
1 Bonaparte's Gull (early morning), 700+ Sandwich Tern, 120 Common Tern, 1 Peregrine  and 1 Mediterranean Gull before high tide - Hilbre.
1 juv Ruff, 1 Greenshank, 600+ Sandwich Tern, 40+ Common Tern, 300 Common Ringed Plover, 14 Grey Plover and 1000+ Dunlin - Hoylake Shore.
1 Osprey on post at 4pm, also 1 Peregrine, 1 Hobby and 1 Merlin - Burton Marsh off Station Road.

Aug 25
1 Bonaparte's Gull seen before high tide, also 5 Manx Shearwater, 6 Little Tern, 1 Razorbill and 1 Eider - Hilbre.
2 Spotted Flycatcher in hedge behind Lingmere Fisheries, Leasowe.
1,130 Sandwich Tern - West Kirby to Hoylake at high tide.
18 Little Tern, 1 Kittiwake and 1 Manx Shearwater from Red Rocks at high tide, 5 Wheatear in nursing home garden.

Aug 24
1 Grey Phalarope (flew west), 3 Great Skua, 5 Arctic Skua plus at least 20 sightings of them chasing terns and gulls, 9 Whimbrel and 2 Black Tern, Manx Shearwaters and Kittiwakes in three figures, several flocks of Common Scoters at least 200 in total - Hoylake.
2 Great Skua and 1 Kittiwake in Mersey mouth at high tide - New Brighton.
1 Grey Phalarope (flew west after the one at Hoylake), 3 Little Tern, 4 Kittiwake and 10+ Manx Shearwater - Leasowe Gunsite.
3 Black Tern, 4 Fulmar, 490 Common Scoter, 35 Arctic Skua, 4 Great Skua and 56 Manx Shearwater - Hilbre.

1 Tree Pipit and 1 Yellow Wagtail both flying south over Lower Heswall this morning, 1 Hobby circling overhead early afternoon.

Aug 16
1 Yellow-legged Gull from East Hide, also an injured Pink-footed Goose - Connah's Quay Nature Reserve.
1 Great Skua and 1 juv Kittiwake both flying W, 1 Eider (juv male), 3 Whimbrel, 1 Peregrine, 1 Rock Pipit and 125 Swallow roosted overnight - Hilbre.
1 Bonaparte's Gull (ad winter) - Hoylake Shore, east of Lifeboat Station and moving west with incoming tide.
1 Curlew Sandpier (moulting adult) - Donkey Stand Flash, Parkgate, over high tide.

Aug 15
1 Bonaparte's Gull (ad winter), also 1 Whimbrel and a good selection of terns and waders - Hoylake Shore, high tide.
1 Spotted Crake on main scrape this morning, also 1 Kingfisher, 1 Cattle Egret, 1 Green Sandpiper, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Ruff and 2 Avocet - Burton Mere Wetlands - previous report of Corncrake was an error, apologies.
1 Eider and 1 Whimbrel, 155 Swallows roosted overnight - Hilbre.

Aug 14
3 Arctic Skua, 12 Manx Shearwaters, 43 Gannet - Hoylake Shore, high tide. 
1 Bonaparte's Gull (ad winter) - off Red Rocks an hour before high tide then west of Kings Gap, Hoylake, over high tide.
157 Swallow roosted overnight at Niffy Bay - Hilbre.

Aug 13
1 Bonaparte's Gull (ad winter) - Hoylake Shore, high tide.
4,760 Black-tailed Godwit - Caldy Wildfowl Collection (off A540), West Kirby, flew in before high tide between 10am and 11am.

1 Bonaparte's Gull (ad winter) - Hoylake Shore before high tide, and just off old Lifeboat Station at 1.45pm.
1 Whinchat, 1 Yellow Wagtail (ad male), and 2 Stonechat with fledged young - Burton Point (sheep pens).
1 Hen Harrier, 1 Great Egret and 1 Marsh Harrier - Parkgate.
5 Manx Shearwater, 2 Kittiwake, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull - New Brighton between Forth Perch and the 'Dips'.

Aug 11
3 Manx Shearwater seen from Red Rocks before high tide.
1 Wheatear, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 1 Peregrine, 1 Mediterranean Gull, and 2 Arctic Skua - Hoylake Shore.
600 Black-tailed Godwit seen flying inland, 1 Peregrine, 1 Merlin, 1 Wheatear, 600 Sandwich Tern and 1 Eider early morning, 115 Swallow in overnight roost, 4 Arctic Skua just before high tide - Hilbre.

260 Little Tern (two thirds fledgling, some being from Ireland) still roosting at Gronant (Great Egret there yesterday).

Aug 9
4 Great Egret, 2 Peregrine (ad + juv), 18 Greenshank, female Redstart on fence - Connah's Quay Nature Reserve.
1 Eider, 9 Whimbrel, 75 Ringed Plover, 1150 Sandwich Tern and 700 Black-headed Gull, 90 Swallows roosted overnight - Hilbre, early morning.

Aug 3
Quote from Hilbre Blog "A superb early morning sea watch found a raft of 280 Manx Shearwaters out from the mouth of the Dee. They took off en mass and headed towards the north end with a smaller group splitting off up the Dee. The remaining flock (180) went passed the north end where they wheeled about whilst more birds split away. The remainder of the flock headed towards Red Rocks at Hoylake where small groups could be seen for a good half hour."

1 Water Rail giving good close views, 1 Cattle Egret, 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Marsh Harrier - hghlights from Burton Mere Wetlands.
Possible Pallid Harrier, lot paler than Hen Harrier with prominent and large white ring, came into roost at Parkgate.

Aug 1
1 Marsh Harrier (juv) flew in off sea and over Hoylake prom.
1 Yellow-legged Gull (4cy), 210 Common Scoter, 18 Whimbrel, 16 Gannet, 1 Little Tern, 1 Eider, 1 Mediterranean Gull and 2 Common Sandpiper - Hilbre.

Jul 31
1 Eider (male juv), 6 Whimbrel, 23 Gannet and 746 Sandwich Tern, 125 Swallow roosted overnight - Hilbre.
1 Curlew Sandpiper (moulting adult) seen from main scrape, also 1 Cattle Egret this evening - Burton Mere Wetlands.

Jul 30
Just heard that the pair of Marsh Harriers nesting in Neston Reed Bed successfully fledged three chicks - a FIRST for the Dee estuary, many congratulations to the RSPB.
160 Bar-tailed Godwit (all s/pl) and 200 Knot (all s/pl) off Leasowe Gunsite this morning.

1 Cattle Egret on scrape, 1 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kingfisher and a good selection of waders including 3 Spotted Redshank - Burton Mere Wetlands.
3 Mediterranean Gull and 6 Whimbrel - Thurstaston Shore.
