Directions:
The recommended route to Hilbre Island is from the Dee Lane slipway (1)
at West Kirby.
Only set out during the low tide period (see Tides).
If visiting Hilbre during low tide you can set out three hours after
high tide. Allow one hour to get there and leave the Island at least
three hours before high tide. If planning to stay during high tide
leave West Kirby at least three hours before, you can leave the island
two to three hours after high tide, depending on the height. Remember
you will be on the Island for at least four hours so take plenty of
warm clothing, food and drink - and if visiting in the summer or spring
bring plenty of sun screen! The route takes you past Little Eye (2)
then turning sharp right pass to the mainland side of Middle Eye (3)
(also known as Little Hilbre) before walking on to Hilbre itself up the
pathway on the south end of the Island (4). Dogs must be on a lead. Map
ref. For Hilbre Island is SJ 185880. See also Planning your
trip to Hilbre and latest Hilbre Weather.
Do not attempt to cross to Hilbre from Red Rocks as there is a deep
channel and mud between there and the island.
